Doorway Vol. 1
Durdle Door was a night I won’t forget for a while. One of the best night sky’s I have seen in a long time. It was so dark, you could make out the Milky Way with the naked eye. Staying true to my style, this dark shot conveys what I saw that night.
Dorset Blue
I had been chasing a bluebell shot for a while and was looking for a misty day to create something special. I didn’t get mist, but the beautiful early glow from the sun pouring over the hill in a woodland near Milborne Port lit up the blues and purples perfectly.
King and the Moon
My latest shot of the Strawberry Supermoon. Waiting for it to rise up over King Alfred’s Tower reminded me to be patient. Once I saw the glow on the horizon I knew it was going to happen and I’m so happy with the end result.
Mellow Yellow
I love this type of shot. It draws you in with the hills in the distance layering up, which helps create depth of field. The yellow rapeseed catches your eye, and the morning mist gave it a wonderfully muted colour. From there on, the more you look the more you see.
Early Bird Catches the Worm
Worm Moon setting on a peaceful early morning in Sturminster Newton. Nothing but the sound of the water and great colour in the sky. The single bird finishes this shot off nicely.
Path to the Stones
I was super excited to be snapping away at Stonehenge at 4 am, even though I couldn’t feel my hands in the freezing conditions! Although the light pollution was pretty bad from this angle, I think I still managed to get a decent shot - hopefully the first of many Milky Way/Stonehenge attempts.
Lost in Layers
One from a local woods. The heavy fog just rolled in adding depth, atmosphere and helped to create those magical layers. This is one of those shots were you can just get lost in. Although this image appears to be black and white, it is actually in full colour and you can just pick out the greens and browns.
Somerset Luna Tree
I had this pink super moon shot planned for a while and on the morning, it didn’t disappoint. The sky was full of purples and pinks and the full moon had a nice glow to it as the sun was rising. Absolutely perfect conditions and I managed to time it just right to capture the setting moon above a local tree.
Peek a Moo
I love this one. It just makes me laugh. This young highland cow peeking over the wall was taken on a Lake District trip. I was hoping to get lots of landscape and milkyway photos, but the terrible weather conditions meant stepping away from landscapes and towards the cows!
Calm Appearance
Paignton Pier was on the list of shots I wanted to get. I chose this composition because I liked the leading lines and reflections of the pier in the sand. The grand structure of the pier and long exposure produced a dramatic black and white image. The beach was empty and the sea was calm when I took the shot, which was a big contrast to the busy motorbike festival taking place just behind me.
Winter Blues Vol. 1
During this capture, we had a light dusting of snow. When I arrived at this local Somerset spot, the conditions were not brilliant. I was about to give up, and was actually walking away when everything changed. I decided to shoot from a different angle and it worked perfectly. The mist arrived and the blue sky started poking through the clouds, which created an amazing winter scene.
Winter Blues Vol. 2
You may recognise this tree, and that’s because I already have it in a slightly different composition. This is a result of me being indecisive, and a social media vote that showed both were equally popular!
Morning Bill
One of my favourite places to visit is Portland Bill. Taking the image from this side of the lighthouse really showcased the foreground of rocky coastline that was being met with the morning sun. The calm sea and contrasting stormy sky made this a photo opportunity not to be missed.
Hide And Peak
The nights sky has always fascinated me, so I couldn’t resist planning a Milky Way shot whilst on a campervan road trip in the South of France. I wanted a silhouette of the Pyrenees mountains under the stars. A midnight walk and a partial break in the cloud gave me the Milky Way and Jupiter, but the mountains remained hidden.
The Doctors Car
Oradour-Sur-Glane is a French village that was victim to an unimaginable war crime. For me, the isolated, burnt-out doctors car surrounded by nothing but derelict buildings, seemed to capture the emptiness of this remarkable place.
Peggy’s Breakfast
Anyone and everyone who is into photography will have a favourite shot they captured during the Covid 19 lockdown, and this is mine. I couldn’t work, so was up early to turn my camera to the garden. I’ve never done wildlife photography before so when I managed to capture this robin perched on our axe, I was over the moon. An early bird really does catch the worm (well, caterpillar).
The Old Oak
This shot was taken locally in September 2020, but in some respects, it’s one of my oldest ideas. I wanted morning sun, golden grass and a touch of fog to go with this unusual oak - not too much to ask for I thought. With many attempts over two years, my persistence finally paid off, and I was rewarded with this image.
Side by Side
I love being able to get a local shot. I’ve driven past these trees countless times and they’ve always caught my eye. On this particular morning I was treated to heavy fog and frost, which added texture and wonderful colours to complement the trees perfectly.
